The former Benfica man has set a new record

Liverpools summer signing Darwin Nñez has become the fastest player in Premier League history.

The striker signed for 64 million, plus 21m in potential add ons, last summer and was one of the leagues marquee signings along with Erling Haaland and Antony.

The towering number nine headed home the winner for Jurgen Klopps side against West Ham United on Wednesday evening, and it was during this match that Nñez broke Kyle Walkers speed record that stretched back two years.

Empire Of The Kopand other Liverpool media outlets are convinced it was the run made in a leg race with Kurt Zouma, where he chased down a Roberto Firmino pass.

The 23-year-old Uruguayan also became the second-fastest top speed in Champions League history last year, when he notched up a speed of 36.5km/h whilst playing for Benfica.

PSGs Kylian Mbappe took top spot with a speed of 36.7km/h.

Nñez fifth goal of the season against the Hammers brought Liverpool up to seventh place, but still 11 points adrift of leaders Arsenal.

He was substituted just before the hour mark, but Klopp insisted it was just a precaution.

It is important. He has scored now a couple of times in the last few games. He arrived 100 per cent, now even with numbers, which is fine,

He felt a little bit the muscles at half-time but it was all fine and after five minutes I was just a bit concerned about long sprints for him and balls where he stretches his legs.

I thought, Come on, we cannot take that risk and thats why we changed.
